A Happy Home = Freedom from Dampness

Now that the rainy season is in full bloom in India, water leakage is quite a common problem, especially in case you live in an old construction. What may not bother us for the rest of the year becomes quite a nuisance during this time. I still remember going to a now gazillionaire friend's house in Bombay a few years ago, where she had to place buckets all over her room for the water dripping down because of seepage. That's not all, the worst part is that besides dripping water and seepage, the monsoons also cause mold to grow over walls and cupboards, which is not only a health hazard but also has this godawful smell. I was on holiday in a beachy town called Gokarna last week and though we stayed at a really nice resort with spacious clean rooms and a nice big swimming pool, their beach side restaurant was in shambles and didn't even look like it was a part of the property. Since its monsoon and the rain can get erratic yet extremely heavy on the coast, there were two instances when it started raining cats and dogs while I was having a meal there. At that point of time, I could see water leaking everywhere from the roof and in about 5 minutes most of the floor around me was wet and I was forced to get up and find a drier location to sit in. So I can fairly say that I've seen my share of water seepage, leakage and dampness related issues.

Besides being annoying and unpleasant to look at, dampness also comes with a lot of health hazards which often go unnoticed.  A home with improper humidity levels can become a breeding ground for dust mites, allergens, pathogens, and harmful chemicals that are known to be more abundant in humid conditions. Unaddressed dampness can lead to chronic headaches, allergies, asthma symptoms such as wheezing, shortness of breath or coughing. Another alarming factor is that pests flourish in damp environments. So damp areas are a party spot for cockroaches (eeek) and giant rats. I bet you didn't know that rat wastes are a known trigger for causing asthma!

It’s no secret that for good health, your environment needs to be clean, hygienic and healthy. For this, one of the factors that you must address is to ensure that your home is free from dampness and leakage. Waterproofing your home can significantly reduce the growth of mold and fungi, and ensure that a healthy environment is created. Look for any signs of moisture on the walls, ceiling or floor and if present, tackle it immediately to arrest the problem and to resolve it effectively. Similarly, broken tiles and plumbing issues can lead to water seepage and cause health issues. All you need to do is conduct a regular check of your walls, ceiling and floor and look for damp patches, dark grey, green and white spots and other indications of mold. Make sure you inspect all areas which are exposed to the weather elements, as these are more likely to have seepage. Also, inspect the structure with the help of an expert to ensure its strength, and the roof, bathroom, and exterior and interior walls – as these are more prone to seepage issues and can allow dampness to seep in.

Thankfully, back home in Pune, I've never faced a situation like that because we got our monsoon leakage issues sorted by a company called Dr.Fixit. This super company sends a team of dedicated technical experts for site inspection of your property and they compile a timely solution for your issue along with recommendation reports. Dr.Fixit also has trained applicators who are the ambassadors for good waterproofing workmanship. The continuous efforts taken by Dr.Fixit aim for a leakage free India. When I moved to my house about two and half years ago, I had a major water leakage issue in my room during heavy rains. It was annoying because the water would seep through the windowsill and make a nice puddle on the floor right next to my bed. So imagine waking up, getting out of bed and stepping in a pool of water. Yup, that happened to me. Thankfully, my dad consulted the good folks at Dr.Fixit and their team of experts sorted the issue out in no time. So now I can sit in bed and enjoy the view and not worry about a free wading pool by my bedside the next day.

So whether it's damp walls, ceilings, rising dampness, cracks or leakages, Dr Fixit can sort it out for you! Why suffer unnecessarily when the solution is simple, readily available and effective? Check out their latest TVC which informs viewers about the advantages of waterproofing our home -
