LFW Day 4 : The Karmik Show

Yesterday saw the launch of a new Brand called “Karmik” at the Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort  2012. Karmik finally brings the concept of affordable designer wear in India and I must say this was highly necessary since luxury brands like Missoni and Versace have already dabbled with this abroad in collaboration with Target and H&M respectively and the concept has been very successful.

The “Karmik Collection” is a collaboration of 10 of India's top designers who have designed this line for luxury fashion brand Kimaya. The designers, namely - Rohit Bal, Anamika Khanna, J J Valaya, Rocky S, Falguni and Shane Peacock, Ranna Gill, Shantanu and Nikhil, Rina Dhaka, Neeta Lulla and Kavita Bhartia
presented a great affordable range of Indian designer wear in the form of saris, salwar kameezes and tunics.

The show was had of four creations from each designer which will be in the price range of Rs 5000-6000, thus expanding the boundaries of affordable fashion to a much wider target audience. A video was shown at the start of the show about what each designer felt about the concept of Karmik and in it, one of the designers rightly said that Karmik will finally let those who could not afford designer wear, step a notch up and buy a piece and for those who can afford it, they can step a notch down and afford five more. Well said. The clothes were really lovely indeed.
