LFW Day 3 : Marg By Soumitra & Paromita Banerjee

It was a very Bengali afternoon at Lakme Fashion Week today indeed when two talented designers from my state showcased their collections. Oh and by the way, I'm Bengali :)

The first part of the show had designer Soumitra Mondal label Marg presenting the  “Bunon” collection Bunon which means weaving in Bengali. The colors used were off white, beige and gold on Khadi and designs were simple yet elegant and not over the top, thus making them perfect for occasions when you want to wear something traditional but do not want to look like you're going for a wedding.  He also added traditional floral embroidery to these designs. The models were looking really lovely with the white flowers in their hair.

The second part was designer Paromita Banerjee's collection "Haat" which means loosely defines a flea market in India. This collection was inspired by life on the street and the apparel of the common people.
Models sashayed down the runway in vibrant, colorful and comfortable looking garments. With a color palette ranging from green, red, rust, yellow, brown and black, the collection comprised of kurtas, summer jackets, skirts, pyjamas and layered tunics and had menswear also. Hand blocks inspired by the 16th century chintz motifs from India and the Tree of Life design were seen on many pieces.I couldn't help but notice the red and white checked "Gamcha" on some models, which made me reminicise about all my childhood trips to Kolkata, as these are a common sight there.
